Your Legacy, Your Story: How to Create Meaningful Impact

How do you want to be remembered? Most people think of wills and financial planning, but your emotional legacy – the memories, values, and impact you leave behind – can be just as powerful. It’s definitely important to have all of your legal and financial documentation in order. But there’s another kind of legacy – one that isn’t written in legal documents, but in the hearts and minds of those we leave behind: our emotional legacy. What impact, values, and memories do you want to leave? Your story is your own to tell and legacy projects can bring you peace by allowing you to shape and share your emotional legacy in the way that is most fitting to you.

I’m Living Fully Now, Why a Legacy Project?

You may be thinking, “I’m living fully now – why should I start a legacy project?” That’s exactly the point. Legacy projects aren’t just about the end; they are about being intentional with the impact you leave behind, starting now. I know from experience that topics around death are easier to discuss when they are looked at in the distance through binoculars, rather than when the end is near. Not only is it less scary, it also gives you the opportunity to give such weighty topics the consideration they require. In my workshops, “Living Fully and Dying Prepared,” we explore different types of legacy projects over six sessions, helping participants find the ones that resonate most with them.

What is a Legacy Project?

Here are a few examples of legacy projects:

✅ Personal Stories & Memoirs – Write a memoir, record oral histories, or create a memory book

✅ Letters to Loved Ones – Compose future letters for birthdays, weddings, or milestones

✅ Death Decluttering & Bequeathing – Clear out things that no longer have meaning, and personally gift meaningful items to loved ones while you can still experience their gratitude

✅ Unspoken Words: Expressing What Matters Most – Express gratitude, share your authentic feelings, or make amends

✅ Art & Creativity – Create quilts, paintings, or handmade gifts that tell your story

Why Are Legacy Projects Important?

What stories do you want your loved ones to hold onto? How can you leave them with guidance, comfort, and a lasting connection to you?

Getting Started with Your Own Legacy Project

Exploring legacy projects in a supportive community can be even more meaningful. That’s why I offer the “Living Fully and Dying Prepared” workshop, where we talk through different legacy projects together.

✅ Reflect on Your Impact – What values and lessons do you want to pass along?

✅ Choose a Meaningful Format – Whether writing, art, or storytelling, pick a format that feels right to you.

✅ Start Small – Focus on progress, not perfection.

✅ Decide When to Share – Whether you reveal it now or leave it as a gift for later, trust your timing.

Why Think about Legacy Projects?

Your legacy is yours to shape – starting today. Whether you’re just beginning to reflect or ready to take action, I invite you to explore this journey in a supportive space. Join me for a “Living Fully and Dying Prepared” workshop, where you can gain clarity, inspiration, and guidance for your own meaningful legacy project.
